Cuttack: November 20: A bus travelling from Talcher in Angul District to Cuttack fell off a bridge into the Mahanadi River bed in Cuttack today, which caused death of more than 7 passengers.
State Police DG RP Sharma, who is closely monitoring the situation, has twitted:
‘I am extremely saddened to know about seven deaths…RIP…most of the other injured have been shifted to the hospital and are receiving treatment….wish them a speedy recovery….’
“All injured have been shifted to hospital. Arrangements have been done for their treatment. Every possible help from the police will be extended… for any help please call +916712304001,” the DGP added.
The Bus bearing registration number OD 35 A 0211, was travelling from Talcher to Cuttack with around 35 passengers and the driver of the Bus lost control over the vehicle after hitting a bullock on the bridge which further fell into the River after breaking the railing of the bridge.
After getting information, fire personnel, ODRAF and Police Personnel were engaged in rescue operation and shifting the injured persons to hospitals. Bus is also injured in the incident.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed grief over the incident and has directed Minister Chandra Sarathi Behera to visit the incident site and monitor the situation.
The CM has also instructed the district administration and SCB Medical College and Hospital to provide quick and free treatment to all the injured passengers.
Police Commissioner Satyajit Mohanty, Fire Services DG B K Sharma, Cuttack DCP Akhileshwar Singh, Cuttack Collector Arvind Agarwal and other officials are looking after the rescue operations on the spot.
