Issues second warning to the former
Bhubaneswar, May 19: Yesterday, while hearing a case in connection to the Mahanadi water dispute, the National Green Tribunal pulled up the Chhattishgarh government for undertaking this Mahanadi project on the upper catchment of the river as a result adversely affecting the water flow in Odisha. The NGT Eastern bench also slammed at the neighbouring government for not appearing before the court and also warned of giving its ‘one-sided’ verdict if the Chhattisgarh government does not appear with its reply before the court.
On the other hand, the NGT has instructed the Odisha government to prepare a list of projects approved by the Chhattisgarh government in the past 5 years. Petitioner Sudarsan Mohapatra stated to media that the bench has expressed displeasure for the lack of response from the Chhattisgarh government and thus has given another date on which if the latter does not furnish a reply then adverse steps will be taken.
