Odisha CM allots work order under ABAAS to 11,228 beneficiaries

Bhubaneswar, Dec 26: Under a programme called ‘Beneficiary-led Construction’ of the ABBAS- the Odisha Urban Housing Mission, 11,228 beneficiaries have been given work order by the Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday.

In 2016-17, Odisha had targeted to provide 50,000 houses to the economically backward people and in 2017-18 the target has been set to 1 lakh houses.

In 2016-17, around 23843 beneficiaries of 27 districts belonging to 40 urban bodies have been selected under the mission. Besides that, under the Affordable Housing Project, construction of 11548 houses in Bhubaneswar and Rourkela have been approved by the government.

Added on to the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojona (PMAY), the housing mission aims to provide houses to all urban poor and through Beneficiary-led construction programme, a financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh to construct houses on 3,000 square feet area can be availed by the economically backward people. To obtain this assistance, the annual income of a family must be less than Rs 1.8 lakh and must have a land patta.

Odisha Urban Housing Scheme has been initiated by the State government to facilitate pucca houses mainly to economically weaker and low income group living in urban areas. For implication of housing policy, ABAAS- the Odisha Urban Housing Mission and District Urban Housing Samitis have been set up by the government.
