Covid Vaccine: Gap Between 2nd And Booster Dose Reduced To Six Months

7th July 2022

The health ministry has reduced the gap between the second and third dose of Covid vaccine to six months from nine months at present.

Heath Secretary Rajesh Bhusan said in a letter to states, ‘In view of the evolving scientific evidence and global practices, the standing technical sub-committee of National Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (NTAGI) has recommended revising the duration between second dose and precaution dose from existing nine months or 39 weeks to six months or 26 months. This has also been endorsed by NTAGI’.

Centre’s decision to reduce the gap between the second and precaution dose of Covid vaccine will help to expand coverage of ‘Precaution dose’. As Covid cases have been increasing now, this will help to check the trend.

So far, 4,75,78,267 crore ‘precaution dose’ have been administered across the country. Also, India’s Cumulative COVID-19 Vaccination Coverage has exceeded 198.20 Cr.
