Group Captain Varun Singh Passes Away
Group Captain Varun Singh, who was injured in a helicopter crash along with CDS General Rawat, passed away on Wednesday. Indian Air Force gave this information by tweeting.
The Twitter Message of IAF said, ‘IAF is deeply saddened to inform the passing away of braveheart Group Captain Varun Singh, who succumbed this morning to the injuries sustained in the helicopter accident on 08 Dec 21. IAF offers sincere condolences and stands firmly with the bereaved family’.
He was earlier admitted to the Army Hospital in Wellington after he was injured in a helicopter crash in Coonoor, Tamil Nadu on 8 December. Later, in view of his critical condition, he was shifted to Bangalore. He was fighting the battle of life for the last 7 days.
Group Captain Varun Singh is from the Indian Air Force (IAF). His father retired colonel KP Singh was in the Army Air Defense (AAD) regiment. The second son of Colonel KP Singh and younger brother of Group Captain Varun Singh, Lieutenant Commander Tanuj Singh is in the Indian Navy.
Varun Singh was awarded the Shaurya Chakra by President Ram Nath Kovind on Independence Day this year. He was given this award for successful landing of Tejas aircraft from a height of 10 thousand feet even after the flying control system was damaged.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed ‘extreme anguish’ at the death of Air Force Group Captain Varun Singh and said, ‘Group Captain Varun Singh served the nation with pride, valour and utmost professionalism. I am extremely anguished by his passing away. His rich service to the nation will never be forgotten. Condolences to his family and friends. Om Shanti’.
