Cyclonic Storm over Bay of Bengal by 16th May

Cyclone Update for Odisha

Bhubaneswar: May 14: Well marked Low Pressure area over southeast Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood and its likely intensification into a Cyclonic Storm by 16th May, evening. Yesterday’s Low Pressure Area over southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining south Andaman Sea, lay as a well marked low pressure area over southeast Bay of Bengal in the morning of today, the 14th May 2020, informed Met Centre, Bhubaneswar.

It is very likely to concentrate into a Depression over central parts of south Bay of Bengal on tomorrow, the 15th May and further intensify into a Cyclonic Storm over the same region by 16th evening. It is very likely to move northwestwards initially till 17th May and then re-curve north-northeastwards towards North Bay of Bengal on 18th & 19th May.

Rainfall

Light to moderate rainfall very likely to occur at many places over the districts of coastal Odisha with isolated heavy rainfall very likely to occur over the district of Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Jagatsinghpur and Kendrapara on 18th May and Light to moderate rainfall at most places with heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places very likely to occur over the districts of coastal Odisha on 19th May, 2020.

Wind Warning

Squally winds 40-50 kmph gusting 60 kmph very likely to occur along and off south Odisha coast on 18th May and Gale winds 60-70 kmph gusting 80 kmph very likely to occur along and off Odisha coast on 19th May,2020.

Fishermen warning for deep sea area:

Squally wind speed reaching 45-55 kmph gusting 65 kmph likely to prevail over Southeast and adjoining central southwest Bay of Bengal on 15 May and 55-65 kmph gusting 75 kmph likely over central parts of south and adjoining central Bay of Bengal on 16th May. Gale wind speed reaching 70-80 kmph likely over east central and adjoin west-central Bay of Bengal on 17th May. Gale wind 70-80 kmph gusting to 90 kmph over west central and adjoining east central Bay of Bengal on 18th May. Fishermen are advised not to venture into deep sea area of south and central Bay of Bengal from 15th May 2020. Those who are out at sea over this region are advised to return from these deep sea areas by tomorrow.

Fishermen warning for Odisha Coast:

Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea along and off Odisha coast and North Bay of Bengal from 18th may onwards. Those who are out of sea are advised to return to the coast by 17th May, 2020.
