Delhi-Mumbai Expressway to be completed in 2023

Delhi-Mumbai Expressway is scheduled for completion by March 2023. The first phase of the highway from Delhi-Jaipur (Dausa)-Lalsot as well as Vadodara-Ankleshwar is likely to be open by March 2022.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari toured Delhi, Rajasthan, Haryana, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh and reviewed the project’s progress recently.

Union Minister said, ‘The two-day aerial survey of Delhi-Mumbai Expressway has been completed. After thoroughly inspecting the highway, I am confident that the road will become an icon of New India and will open endless opportunities for millions of people’.

This 1380 kilometers eight-lane expressway is being constructed at a cost of Rs.98,000 crore and will reduce travel time between certain cities to 12-12.5 hours from 24 hours.

This Highway project was kick started in the year 2018 and the project’s foundation stone being laid on 9 March 2019.

The project is expected to improve connectivity to economic hubs of India like Jaipur, Ajmer, Kishangarh, Chittorgarh, Kota, Udaipur, Ujjain, Bhopal, Indore, Vadodara, Ahmedabad and Surat.

The project will boast wayside amenities such as resorts, food courts, restaurants, fuel stations, logistics parks, facilities for truckers. As planned, for accident victims, it will offer helicopter ambulance service. The highway project is Asia’s first and the world’s second to include animal overpasses in order to facilitate unrestricted wildlife movementAs projected, the project shall save more than 320 million liters of fuel as well as reduce Carbon dioxide emissions by 850 million kg.

Over 12 lakh tonnes of steel and 80 lakh tonnes of cement will be consumed in the construction of the project.

The Election Commission has deployed 220 companies of paramilitary forces, 35,626 Delhi Police personnel, and 19,000 home guards to ensure peaceful voting. Nearly 3,000 polling booths have been identified as sensitive, and special security arrangements, including drone surveillance, have been made at some of these locations. According to Delhi Police, additional police forces will be deployed for the sensitive booths where Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs) will also be stationed to maintain law and order. Special provisions have been made for senior citizens and persons with disabilities, with 733 polling stations designated for their accessibility. In an effort to streamline the process, the Election Commission has introduced a Queue Management System (QMS) app, which will enable the voters to check crowd levels in real time. Additionally, 6,980 out of 7,553 eligible voters under the home voting facility have already cast their ballots. The campaigning, which officially ended at 6 pm on Monday, saw a high-voltage battle between the three main contenders. The AAP focused on its governance model, with Kejriwal and Chief Minister Atishi leading rallies across the city. Led by heavyweights like Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and party president JP Nadda, the BJP intensified its attack on the AAP over corruption allegations and law and order issues. The Congress, led by Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, too put up a spirited campaign, targeting both the AAP and the BJP on various issues.
