Bhubaneswar, Sept 13: After the Railway recruitment scam broke out with the arrest of the involved employee, a letter was sent by the East Coast Railway (ECoR) on Monday to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), urging the CBI to investigate into the matter.

After several employees have been arrested in the past few days, ECoR is now suspecting a deep rooted system in this job scam, sources said.

Following these arrests, several complaints from aspirants came in. The initial investigation estimated the fraud to be of around Rs 5 crore.

It may be noted that a grade II technician of Banspani Electrical Divison of Indian Railways, named Kishore Behra had been nabbed by Nayapalli Police on September 5 on charges of defrauding Rs 22 lakh from five youths with a promise to provide them a job in the Railways. Besides, three other Railway employees were also arrested on September 3 by Commissionerate Police for their alleged involvement in the scam.

On September 6, the ECoR had ordered a vigilance investigation into the scam.

In the past five months, around 10 persons, including five Railway employees have been arrested for their alleged involvement in the racket.
