Bhubaneswar, Dec 29: Demanding their conditions to be fulfilled, yesterday the Nilachal Krushak Mahasangha hits roads and staged a demonstration on the Bhubaneswar-Puri National Highway near Satyabadi block by eating food on the road.
Coconut purchase price by the state government should be increased, while paddy-purchasing price per quintal should be Rs 500, they demanded.
However, after the police reached the spot and tried taking the situation under control, failed. Later, the police removed the farmers forcibly which had created a clash between them.
Compensation money for the loss of farmers occurred due to the Cyclone Phailin had already been sanctioned by the Centre, but the farmers of Puri district are yet to get the amount, informed sources.
SDPO, Pipili, Dilip Tripathy in his statement said that the farmers were not given any permission to stage demonstration on the road and also refused the allegation of any lathi charge on the farmers.
On the other side, tension gripped among the farmers as certain restriction has been imposed at the government markets while selling of paddy.
