Fire outbreak at Sum Hospital, around 22 killed, many injured

Bhubaneswar, Oct 17: Around 22 patients died today because of a fire mishap at the Sum Hospital in Shampur area due to a electric short circuit that led to a major fire outbreak  in the Intensive Care Unit of the Dialysis ward in the first floor of the hospital this evening.

As per the latest reports, 14 patients that were shifted to the Capital hospital have died while eight patients taken to the Amri hospital have died.

To get the fire under control, around 7 fire tending vehicles were deployed and around thirteen ‘108’ ambulances were also pressed into service to shift the patients to the Capital hospital and three other private hospitals, reports further added.

The State government formed a probe committee led by the DMET with collector and fire safety officer as its members, soon after the incident to probe into the matter.

However, more details are awaited.
