Bhubaneswar, Aug 9: Four veteran freedom fighters from the State, Bhabani Charan Pattanayak (95), Dolagobinda Pradhan (90), Rabindra Nath Ray (95) and Nilamani Samal (87) have been invited by the President of India to the ‘At Home’ Reception at the Rastrapati Bhavan today evening to pay homage to 75th anniversary of the “Quit India Movement” in the Indian freedom struggle.
Pattanayak hailing from Nimapara in Puri had taken part in the 1942 Quit India Movement and was imprisoned in Nimapara jail from 1942-46. Pradhan belonging to Cuttack, and Ray belonging to Nuagaon were jailed in Cuttack and Berhampur central jails for participating in Quit India Movement. While, Samal of Balichandrapur village in Jajpur district was imprisoned for three years in Cuttack jail.
The Quit India Movement, also known as the August Movement was a Civil Disobedience Movement launched on August 8, 1942 by Mahatma Gandhi for Satyagraha (independence) from British rule in Mumbai (then Bombay).
