The journey of Sumit of Sonepat has been full of difficulties. Even after losing a leg in a road accident that happened 6 years ago, Sumit never gave up on life and faced every situation with great courage. This is India’s third medal in javelin throw at Paralympics 2020.
India has so far won 7 medals in Paralympic Games including 2 Gold, 4 Silver and 1 Bronze. It has become India’s most successful Paralympics ever. Earlier, India had won 4-4 medals in 2016 Rio Olympics and 1984 Olympics. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also congratulated all the athletes.

India won 5 medals on Monday
Monday was a great day for India at the Tokyo Paralympics. Before Sumit, Avani Lekhara won the gold medal in shooting. Apart from this, Sunder Singh Gurjar won the bronze medal in Javelin Throw.
On the other hand, Vinod Kumar, who won bronze in discus throw on Sunday, was stripped of the medal today. The result was put on hold on Sunday. Some countries had objected to their classification category. India’s Chief of Mission Gursharan Singh said that the organisers did not find Vinod eligible in his classification category.
Vinod participated in the F52 category
The 41-year-old Vinod participated in the Paralympics in the F52 category. Athletes who have muscle weakness are included in this category. Lack of limbs, leg length is uneven. Such players take part in the competition sitting on a wheelchair.
Gursharan said that the organisers withdrew the medal saying that Vinod’s body is stronger than this category. The technical committee has placed him in the “Classification Not Completed” (CNC) category. Because of this Vinod’s performance has been dropped from the final.
Earlier on August 22, he was also examined. However, then the organisers had said that they would specially screen Vinod during the event itself. Then Vinod was allowed to play. Vinod won the bronze medal in the final with a best throw of 19.91m.
