Northeast flashfloods: 32 dead and over 12000 affected

New Delhi: Flash floods and multiple landslide incidents in northeast have killed 32 people and has affected over 12000, says official reports.

In the last two days, at least 32 people have dies in northeast following landslides and flash floods. As per reports of District Disaster management authority (DDMA) of various districts of northeast, several landslides have taken place in Assam, Arunachal, Meghalaya, Manipur and Mizoram in last 2 days causing damage to several houses, roads and leaving people affected.

The weather department has issued an orange and red alert for parts of Assam and an orange and yellow alert for the rest of the northeast.

In Assam, five people were killed in landslides in last 24 hours and affecting over 10,000 people.

Meanwhile last night, seven people lost their lives after a landslide swept a Brezza car into a deep gorge along NH-13 stretch between Bana and Seppa in Arunachal Pradesh.

Even a sumo vehicle was caught at the edge of the landslide-affected road but fortunately no casualties was reported.

Home Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, In a Facebook post expressed his grief over the unfortunate incident, “It’s very painful to hear about the tragic loss of seven lives in my Assembly constituency due to a landslide on NH-13 between Bana and Seppa. My heartfelt condolences go out to the bereaved families during this difficult time. I urge everyone to remain vigilant and to avoid night travel during the monsoon season. My thoughts and prayers are with the affected families. May the departed souls rest in peace. Om shanti shanti.”
