Oppn formulates strategy to corner ruling party in Assembly

Bhubaneswar, March 15: Opposition BJP and Congress geared up on Tuesday to grill the State Government in the Assembly as it begins its Budget session while the State government is ready with its ammo to counter the attacks.

Congress has hinted at attacking the government for what it alleged its “all round failures”, the BJP has prepared its strategy to corner the State government on issues ranging from  scarcity of potato to failure of Antyodaya scheme in State.

The two major Opposition parties charted out their game plan in meeting at their respective party headquarters to corner the ruling BJD.

The BJP legislature party and senior leaders of State unit drew a long list of issues to attack the government on the floor of the House.

State BJP President Basant Panda had claimed that issues such as failure of the potato mission and price rise of the tuber will be raised in the House besides irregularities in ration card distribution and what he alleged deteriorating law and order situation.

The party claimed that it was ready to counter the State government’s allegation of Central negligence.

On the other hand, the Congress announced to target the ruling party on the alleged criminal nexus between BJD leaders and the notorious Dhalasamant brothers.

It will also grill the State government on a host of issues concerning farmers of the State, water and power scarcity and law and order.

Leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra has hinted at raising the issue of arrest of former party MLA Ramesh Jena in the house.

He has alleged that the Congress leader was being harassed by the government to divert the attention of the people from the alleged nexus between some BJD leaders with notorious Dhalsamant brothers who were arrested recently.

However, the ruling BJD claimed that it had the ammunition to counter Opposition charges.

Parliamentary Affairs minister Bikram Keshari Arukh has said that the job of the Opposition is to present issues of the people before the House.

“We hope issues pertaining to the interests of Odisha people will be presented and the ruling party will welcome such a move,” he said.

In the Assembly, the ruling party is likely to raise the issue of reduction in Central allocation in 2016-17 union budget and the denial of any special fund allocation for Biju Babu’s centenary celebration.

Besides, the party will also raise Polavaram and Special Category Status issues in the Assembly during the session.
