Bhubaneswar, Oct 9: The people of the city are likely to be disappointed in this festive season as the Commissionerate police has cancelled the permission to conduct firework during ‘Ravan Podi’ which will be held on Tuesday in Bhubaneswar.
Only a few puja pandals i.e., at Jharpada and the Baramunda puja mandap has been permitted to hold Ravan Podi celebrations with fireworks. Other puja committees can hold Ravan Podi without any fire work. All the puja committees have been directed the same. Last year the people of the capital city had witnessed 31 Ravan Podis.
Ravan podi is celebrated to mark the Dussehra celebration after the nine-day worship of Maa Durga. This time people’s moods may go off as they are not getting the chance to celebrate Ravan Podi and they may not get to see the firework lighting effects which is an important aspect of Ravan Podi.
Informing about such step, YB Khurania, Commissioner of police said that a fire accident which happened at Puttingal Devi temple of Kerala took lives of 100 people and around 500 people sustained injuries. Following this, Supreme Court and the Center has issued some guidelines which will be followed.
