Rourkela, March 14: in its bid to enhance product quality, Rourkela Steel Plant here has commissioned a new hydraulic automatic gauge control system recently.
The system was commissioned under the guidance of General Manager, HSM PK Mehrotra and DGM In-charge (Operation) HSM P Murli.
The Electrical team comprising DGM RK Muduli, AGMs NR Sahoo and C Nayak, D Sarangi, SK Pradhan and HK Sahu – all Senior Technicians of HSM- were instrumental in carrying out the implementation process.
It is to be noted that the new HAGC system with many additional features has got an immense advantage over the previously existing AGC. It is a state- of- the- art Simatic TDC based control system making use of FM458 Modules for technological gap control.
This would greatly help in the production of coils through AGC route with strip thickness variation of as low as +/- 60 micron for 95% of strip length.
With its implementation the Mill will now be able to give required dimensional tolerances, meet the quality standards and customer expectations thereby leveraging its market share and boosting the bottom line.
