RSP’s ‘Prayas’ for welfare of women contract labourers

Rourkela, Jan 5: As many as 26 women contract labourers of Rourkela Steel Plant were made aware of their rights, duties and benefits at the ninth session of ‘Prayas’ organized by RSP at HRD Centre here recently.

The participants were also introduced to various provisions of the SA-8000 such as child labour, forced labour, provision of health and safe working environment, rights, discrimination, working hours, safety, wages, verbal abuse etc. through movies, video clips and stories.

In the interaction session T G Kanekar, AGM (Personnel-CLC) clarified various doubts of contract labourers pertaining to benefits, statutory provisions like ESI and Provident Fund etc.

Sabitri Sahoo, Assistant of CLC, briefed the participants on rights, benefits, responsibilities and issues such as wage structure, bank payment, pay slip, ESI and PF coverage, medical benefits etc.

K M Mohanty, Labour Inspector (PL) CLC, coordinated the programme.

Notably, Prayas is a communication programme launched by RSP for contract labours working in RSP for their welfare wherein Standards and Provisions are explained to them in a simple and lucid manner.
