Cuttack, Feb 27: Prof Laxmidhar Das, Head of Department, Anaesthesia of SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, was on Friday arrested by the police on charges of sexual harassment of a post graduate girl student of the department.
Previously on the day, students of the college staged a protest rally inside the hospital premises demanding ouster and arrest of Das.
Notably, a complaint committee formed as per the guidelines of the Supreme Court has started probing into the allegation of the victim.
The committee has issued a notice to the girl to remain present before it on Wednesday.
The accused professor would be issued notice after the girl’s statement is recorded.
Meanwhile, the Professor was forwarded to court by the police.
However, the wife of the accused Professor claimed that Das was innocent and he has been framed.
