Scientists working on Climate Change should guide the policy makers; Union Minister of Petroleum

Bhubaneswar, Dec 19: A four-day National Symposium on Tropical Meteorology (TROPMET-2016) begins today in state capital of Odisha. Addressing the scientists, researchers and other dignitaries present in the Symposium, Union Petroleum Minister said, ‘Scientists and researchers who have been dealing with Climate Change, must guide the Policy makers as to how to tackle such issues and chalk out a plan for the future’. Also, he informs regarding the possibility opening a highway along Odisha coast up to Andhra Pradesh, construct more ports and create tourism facilities. While announcing this, he said, but it is for the environmental scientists to advise policy makers as to what should or should not be done. Witnessing the occasion as Guest, Odisha Minister for higher education, Science and Technology Pradeep Panigrahy speaks on Odisha government’s proactive role in disaster mitigation and related issues. Secretary in the Ministry of Earth Sciences M Rajeevan said, Centre had decided to set up two more Doppler radars at Sambalpur and Balasore in the state within two years of time. Odisha’s Development Commissioner and Additional Chief Secretary R Balakrishnan emphasized on increased synergy between those responsible for prediction of weather conditions and those working for mitigation and intervention.

Many Scientists, researchers, environmentalists and experts from India and abroad have participated in the Symposium, organised by organised by the Indian Meteorological Society in collaboration with the Odisha government, Ministry of Earth Sciences and SOA University. Other distinguished guests like IMS President Prof. Ajit Tyagi, Bhubaneswar Meteorological centre Director S C Sahu addressed the meeting. This Symposium will have five Plenary Sessions, twenty three technical sessions and two evening lectures during next three days.
