Social Security Benefits For Newspaper Hawkers
Odisha Government has announced financial assistance of Rs.6,000/- to each Newspaper hawker of the State. I & PR Department has prepared a data base of 7,300 hawkers working in the State.
Each of them received financial support of Rs.6,000 from State Government. The state will incur an expenditure of Rs 4.38 crore for the purpose. The amount has been transferred directly to their Bank accounts. And the whole amount, has been provided from Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
“The hackers are bridge between newspapers and readers,” he said. During the dry, rainy, winter, and even during the Covid epidemic, they forgot their grief and provided newspapers to the readers, Chief Minister said.
“Even in the digital age, the demand for newspapers has not declined,” he said.
Odisha government had announced to provide social security benefits to newspaper hawkers in the State.
As per the scheme, the family of a hawker will get an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh in case of accidental death and Rs 1 lakh for natural death.
Beneficiaries will get Rs 1.5 lakh compensation in cases of complete disability due to accident.
In case of partial disability, the loss of both the organs (loss of both limbs) will be given Rs 80,000 and that of those who have lost one organ (loss of one limb), Rs 40,000.
