Nuclear science workshop

Bhubaneswar, may 19: A National Workshop on “Nuclear Sciences and Applications of Radioisotopes” was inaugurated in KIIT University on 15th May 2017. The five-day programme from May 15 – 20 has been organized by Indian Association of Nuclear Chemists & Allied Scientists (IANCAS) in association with KIIT University. About 100 faculty members and research scholars from various institutions have participated. Eminent scientists from Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) also joined the workshop. Prof. N. K. Sahoo, Distinguished Scientist, Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) and Associate Director of Physics Group, BARC was the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony. Prof. B. S. Tomar, Distinguished Scientist (DAE) and Director of Radiochemistry & Isotope Group, BARC was the keynote speaker and Chairman of the workshop.

The objective of this workshop is to popularize the beneficial aspects of nuclear energy and applications of radioisotopes in science, technology, agriculture and healthcare among the academic community. Eminent BARC scientists specializing in fields like nuclear chemistry, radiopharmaceuticals, nuclear medicines, nuclear agriculture & biotechnology, nuclear reactors etc, will deliver lectures in various sessions during six days workshop. Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences (BRNS), Department of Atomic Energy sponsored the workshop. Among others, Prof. P. P. Mathur, Vice Chancellor, KIIT University, Prof. S. C. Parida of BARC and Prof. Rojalin Sahu of KIIT University were also present.

Speakers include Prof. A. V. R. Reddy, Prof. Ashutosh Dash, Prof. Sandip Basu, S. B. Rajore, Dr. Sudipta Chakraborty, Prof. Kuber C. Bhainsa, D. P. Rath and Kaushik Sanyal. The participants will conduct practical related to handling, detection, measurements and applications of radioisotopes. The workshop will provide a forum for mutual interaction among faculty, research scholars and scientists from BARC.
