Bhubaneswar, Mar 8: Notes Lok Sabha speaker, Union Minister & Socialist leader Rabi Ray, who passed away on the 6th of March, was yesterday cremated with full honours at his native village Bhanragarh in Khurda.
The funeral pyre took place in the presence of Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar, JDU president Sharad Yadav, and about 100s of people. Ray was cremated in village with a gun salute.
Odisha Governor S C Jamir, Nobel laureate Kailash Satyarthi, CPI-M secretary sitaram yechury, and many more also paid their tribute earlier.
While talking to the media, Nitish said that Ray was a mentor and a guardian for him in the socialist movement. His death marked the end of an era, said Naveen.
Giving Rabi Ray an honorary tribute, the state observed a one-day mourning along with the national flag on every government building was flown half mast for the day.
