Charanjit Singh Channi is the new CM Of Punjab
Charanjit Singh Channi became the Chief Minister of Punjab. He took the oath of office along with two Deputy Chief Ministers Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa and O.P. Soni. Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa is a Jat Sikh and O.P.Soni belongs to Hindu Community. Also, Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi is Dalit Sikh.
Rahul Gandhi was there in the Oath taking Ceremony. But, former Chief Minister Amarinder Singh was conspicuously absent from the ceremony.
Before taking oath as CM of Punjab, the chief minister-designate Charanjit Singh Channi on paid obeisance at Gurdwara Katalgarh Sahib at Chamkaur Sahib, his home constituency.
Channi had joined Congress in 2012 only and was elected to assembly for 3 times from the Chamkaur Sahib assembly constituency in Rupnagar district.
He was a Minister in the outgoing cabinet.
Amarinder Singh earlier conveyed ‘Best Wishes’ to his successor Charanjit Singh Channi.
Amarinder Singh on Saturday resigned from his post as the Chief Minister after a drama of few hours.
Speaking to Media, he has told, “future politics option is always there and I will use that option”. Also he termed Navjot Singh Sidhu as a ‘disaster’ and said, ‘he will not accept him as his successor.’
