Bhubaneswar: November 7: Former Speaker Maheswar Mohanty is no more. He passed away on Tuesday at the age of 67 at a Bhubaneswar private hospital.
He was getting treatment in a private hospital in Bhubaneswar for a week after he suddenly fell ill on October 31.
Maheswar Mohanty had won five times from Puri Assembly Constituency. He won once on a Janata Dal ticket and four consecutive times on a Biju Janata Dal (BJD) ticket. During his political career, he has served the state as Cabinet Minister and also the Speaker of the Odisha Assembly from 2004 to 2008.
A lawyer by profession, Mohanty completed his LLB from Utkal University and MA in Political Science from Banaras Hindu University.
He was connected to numerous non-political organizations during his lengthy political career. Sri Mohanty had carried out numerous development projects in Puri, and as a minister and MLA, he will always be remembered for his contributions to the state’s progress.
