Berhampur: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday inaugurated an Adarsha Vidyalaya, a school established on the patterns of Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) to the students of backward regions in Odisha, at a function in his constituency Hinjli. Addressing the gathering on the occasion, the Chief Minister said, “The government is planning to open Adarsha Vidyalayas in each block across the state. 100 Adarsha Vidyalayas across 100 blocks in 14 districts were opened today.”
“The government will open such schools in every block soon so that the students will not have to move from their native place for better education. I hope these Adarsha Vidyalayas will help fulfill the hope and aspirations of the students,” Patnaik added. As many as 88,318 students applied to take admission in the 100 schools out of which 24,000 students have got a chance to get admission in the schools, sources said.
Uniform and all books will be provided free to the students by the schools, sources added. Christened as Adarsha Vidyalayas, these schools with hostel facilities will follow the CBSE syllabus, with English as the first language and Odia as the second language.
The schools with teacher-pupil ratio of 1:25 and classroom-student ratio of 1:40, will offer education from Standard VI to Standard XII. The total strength of each class will be 80, with 40 students in each section, said sources. As much as 50 per cent of the total seats will be reserved for scheduled categories and girl students, added sources. The schools are envisaged to be managed by the Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya Sangathan formed by the state in line with the Kendriya Vidyalay Sangathan.
