Bhubaneswar, Jan 2: After the report of Roorkee-based Central Building Research Institute (CBRI) stated that the sand filed inside the Jagamohan of Konark Temple has slide down by four feet, for its stability, the state will be asking for help from the Centre, official sources informed.
As a matter of concern, the Archeology Survey of India (ASI) would take necessary steps for this and for its conservation, Ashok Panda, Odisha Culture Minister informed. Sources said, a photograph showing a 62 foot gap in the Jagmohan has raised eyebrows towards the conservation of Konark Sun temple. A Konark Working Group member has also raised voice against this. An earthquake of 6 or 6.5 magnitude can cause severe damage to it, NC Pal, Group member stated. To assure the condition and proper conservation of the historic monuments, the CBRI had conducted an endoscopic photography and the 3-D laser scanning that brought to fore, the devastating condition of the monument. However, for the conservation of the monuments, the expert committees have suggested many recommendations but no steps have been taken yet by the ASI, Rabindra Bainipati, group member informed.
