Bhubaneswar: February 22: The ruling Congress Government of Puduchery collapsed just before facing the floor test in the Assembly. With the resignation of several Congress legislators, V Narayanasami’s government became a minority and finally, Chief Minister had to resign.

Before the floor test, Chief Minister Narayanasami left his house with his allies. Later, Speaker V. P. Sivakozhundu announced that the government has lost its majority.

Magic number 16 was needed to form the government. However, Narayanasami left the house with only 11 MLAs in support.

The only Government of Congress in South collapsed. The Assembly Polls in the Union Territory are due in May. It is to be seen whether the Lieutenant Governor recommends President’s rule or invite NR Congress-led opposition alliance to form the Government.
